Harriet Kohen has an extensive and rich background in the Twin Cities working with school age children, adolescents and their families experiencing anxiety, including phobias and habits problems, depression and recovering from traumatic events. She specializes in working from a holistic perspective with youth and families where a member has a serious health condition and may want to focus on family relationships explore the meaning of their life, or address particular issues related to their diagnosis or treatment. Trained in biofeedback based relaxation and clinical hypnosis for symptom management, she emphasizes self-regulation strategies and teaches relaxation and stress management to promote behavioral and somatic change. Ms. Kohen also integrates expressive writing, art, and story telling to facilitate self-expression and emotional healing.

Harriet graduated from the College of St Catherine, University of St. Thomas social work program. Prior to that, she managed a research project at the University of Minnesota focused on children and youth with chronic illness and disabilities and their families studying factors that foster resilience and success in home, school and community. A significant part of her work focused on cross cultural communication among families, providers and patients when providing health and mental health services.

Harriet Kohen is a member of National Association of Clinical Social Workers, the National Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy and the Minnesota Society for Clinical Hypnosis.
